Overnight the temperature leveled. I cannot express how overjoyed I am at this change, for I am finally able to leave the capsule and be in fresh, not canned, air. It is very pleasing to me to be out here in the sand after those many days of heat. And it turns out not all the vegetation was subject to dying out under the sun's rays. I uncovered large patches of a green root beneath the sand, and after boiling it in water to remove any surface bacteria, I tried it. And you know what? It's not half bad. In fact, I have a feeling it will become a staple food. It has a slightly bitter taste, but other than that, tastes suspiciously similar to carrots. I will it Garrot, for green + carrot. Not very creative, I know, but I hastened to record it in my food journal. Ah well, upon my return to the home planet, I will rename it.

DAY 12
Location: Zeena
Surface Temperature: 500 Degrees Fahrenheit
Time: UNKNOWN
Wow. It is HOT. I have had to spend the last nine days inside my sealed, temperature-controlled capsule. There is food and water in this capsule, but not so much that I can exceed two weeks in it. It is small and cramped with only the supplies in a chest and a small bed. But it is at least cooler than the outdoors, which shimmer all hours, even at night. I watch the scarce vegetation shrivel up under the fierce sun and I worry for the wildlife. however, I am sure that they are well adapted to the heat. I only suppose this, for I have not yet seen a creature around here. I worry though, again, because if the plants are not adapted to these temperatures, how will the animals be?

DAY 3
Location: Zeena
Surface Temperature: 200 Degrees Fahrenheit
Time: UNKNOWN
Increase in temperature. I didn't think it was possible. I feel dry, worn out all day. However, the good news is that the sun does set. And when it does, there comes instant relief. The last two nights I slept beneath the stars, or what I can see of them. You see, the terrain is quite mountainous, and they are very tall mountains indeed, obscuring a large portion of the sky.
I have decided, now that I am a little used to the routine of Zeena's day cycle, to commence my studies. Tomorrow I will take samples of the sand. I hope to find life particles, bacteria, anything.
I mean, if i can survive here, there must be something else. Right?

DAY 1
Location: Zeena
Surface Temperature: 150 Degrees Fahrenheit
Time: UNKNOWN
I sit. Squatting in a low ravine. There are high dry winds that make my throat rasp when I speak and my lips pucker when I drink. But I don't need to speak. To speak here is not necessary, for this is no one here but me. Me all alone on this planet. Zeena, it is called.
It is quite different from Mars. Actually, there are quite the same. There are both hot, both dry, both covered in arching mountains and dipping valleys and ravines. The only real difference is the color. Whereas Mars is a beautiful and wholesome red, Zeena is green. A lovely green, an acid green. Dangerous, poison. The one book I have brought along with me is Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. There are poisoned apples in that book. Perhaps I will find them here.
But now I am ranting. It is the heat that is getting to me. I must rest. Remain hydrated until night falls and the temperature drops. But will it drop? This is my first day. I landed this morning. I do not yet know the patterns of this strange new green planet.
I can only hope the sun will set and my burned body will be relieved of this.
